When Zafer Mutlualp fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fenerbahçe SK's protests and gave Zafer Mutlualp a yellow card for diving instead. In the 5th match minute, Fenerbahçe SK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zafer Mutlualp to maneuver through the defense. Fenerbahçe SK's Kullervo Mikkonen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Avni Bayındır in the 6th minute of play. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Akın Çakar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Akın Çakar in the 12th minute of the match. After 14 minutes, Achilleas Voulinos made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Ilic's Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Ahmet Refik Tarhun struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Fenerbahçe SK. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Achilleas Voulinos's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the game, one of Ilic:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 37 minutes into the match, Ilic's goal looked a bit too open when Akın Çakar came free, but Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Achilleas Voulinos in the 45th minute of play. After the first half Fenerbahçe SK were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Avni Bayındır made the kick off in the second half. Akın Çakar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 54 minutes of play, Fenerbahçe SK's Akın Çakar made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu was left in no man's land by his defense there! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Achilleas Voulinos in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Mustafa Ali Arkan hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. After 74 played minutes Ilic got a freekick which was hit by Avni Bayındır. In the 76th minute, Achilleas Voulinos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Fenerbahçe SK fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. Kullervo Mikkonen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Avni Bayındır, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Achilleas Voulinos in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu saved Ilic from getting behind. In the 92nd minute of the match Fenerbahçe SK got a corner. Ilic's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ahmet Refik Tarhun ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ahmet Refik Tarhun made a great header on Fenerbahçe SK's corner, it was just that Ilic's Kerimhan Akyazıcıoğlu managed to reach the ball for a save. Kudret Nihat charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. When the match was over Fenerbahçe SK could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Ilic throughout the match.
