İlhami Çelen took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 34th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Muammer Refi. Erzurum's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Ahmet Haşim Ulum made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Turgay Onursal sent off a good shot on target. When the match clock showed 38 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Hüsrev Aydınalp sped through Erzurum's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Muammer Refi. The crowd rose to their feet as Kayhan Tayguner kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ahmet Haşim Ulum. That made the score 2-1 in the 44 minute of play. Ahmet Haşim Ulum showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Turgay Onursal in the 77th minute of the match. In the 78th match minute, Erzurum was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Müslüm Cemşit to maneuver through the defense. Burhan Övünç successfully managed to get himself past Erzurum's defense and had a dream possibility and totally alone with Muammer Refi everyone thought he would score, but the ball went just outside the top right corner.
