The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. That made the score 1-0 after 13 minutes of play. 18 minutes into the match, Cankurtaran's goal looked a bit too open when Murathan Ortaç came free, but Oğuzalp Ulusu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Necat Kınık had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Turan Oğuralp showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abayhan Canfeda, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. In the 39th minute, Murathan Ortaç fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Oğuzalp Ulusu, passed just outside the right post. FENERBAHÇE's Murathan Ortaç got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Yüce Server sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Murathan Ortaç had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Armağan Timurtas to strike the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Cankurtaran's goal looked a bit too open when Necat Kınık came free, but Oğuzalp Ulusu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Oğuzalp Ulusu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Murathan Ortaç, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Cankurtaran's zone, Kutluay Özhan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oğuzalp Ulusu came out of the goal and Kutluay Özhan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oğuzalp Ulusu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yüce Server, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. With 60 minutes on the clock, Erhun Okay commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 59 minutes into the game, one of FENERBAHÇE:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Turan Oğuralp went to the wrong direction when Hakkı Onur Çetin was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Turan Oğuralp was a little too slow when Armağan Timurtas got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 63rd minute. The score was now 1-1. When Necat Kınık came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the FENERBAHÇE fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Necat Kınık couldn't finish the play. In the 74th minute, Kutluay Özhan ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Oğuzalp Ulusu was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Necat Kınık struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Oğuzalp Ulusu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FENERBAHÇE. Turan Oğuralp was a little too slow when Armağan Timurtas got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 85th minute. The score was now 2-2. In the 89th minute Armağan Timurtas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Turan Oğuralp saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fedai Talaş got free with Turan Oğuralp in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Despite being the better team, FENERBAHÇE failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
