Şenol Uğuş fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Onur Ali Serim having to interfere. Baykam Orgunalp recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Beşiktaş's Numan Umar, in the 8th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Beşiktaş. Zikri Reşat received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Onur Ali Serim tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute, Zikri Reşat got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mardin United's Şenol Uğuş got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Şenol Uğuş had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 19th minute, Zikri Reşat got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Numan Umar in the 23rd minute of play forced Mardin United's goalkeeper Alican Talaz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Numan Umar notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Mardin United's Alican Talaz. Alican Talaz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Yücel Özsen fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Beşiktaş's protests and gave Yücel Özsen a yellow card for diving instead. In the 29th minute, Yücel Özsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Şenol Uğuş had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Zikri Reşat managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mardin United's supporters rose to their feet, but Zikri Reşat was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Onur Ali Serim breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 43 played minutes Mardin United got a freekick which was hit by Abdi Saygın Üner. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Numan Umar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Şenol Uğuş managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mardin United's supporters rose to their feet, but Şenol Uğuş was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Onur Ali Serim breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Beşiktaş's Cengizhan Saykal got a free kick in the 53rd minute. When Zikri Reşat came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Mardin United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zikri Reşat couldn't finish the play. The Beşiktaş fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Onur Ali Serim should have stopped the shot. If Şenol Uğuş had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zikri Reşat in the 91st minute of play forced Beşiktaş's goalkeeper Onur Ali Serim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Baykam Orgunalp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alican Talaz having to interfere. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
