The crowd rose to their feet as Ahmet Ziya Sarphan kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Murat Sezgi. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. After 11 minutes, Ahmet Ziya Sarphan made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Van's Murat Sezgi tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Gaziantep's Nuratay Aydınoğlu got a free kick in the 15th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Enginalp Necaettin in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Murat Sezgi saved Van from getting behind. Murat Sezgi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ahmet Ziya Sarphan in the 22nd minute of play. After having played for 25 minutes, Ahmet Ziya Sarphan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gaziantep's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ahmet Ziya Sarphan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 26th minute, Gaziantep's Ahmet Ziya Sarphan dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. İlmi Onur who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 30thth minute tested the skills of Murat Sezgi when he managed to save the team from getting behind. With 32 minutes on the clock, Aykan Hacısalihoğlu commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 31st minute of the game. One of Gaziantep:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Van:s goal. The referee gave Van a penalty, 34 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Vural Üstünbay, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Gaziantep's Arif Buğra Savni. 3-1. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Van's goalkeeper Murat Sezgi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Tuncer Emek kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Yaşar Köker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arif Buğra Savni having to interfere. If Aytuğ Kudsi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Murat Sezgi made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when Aytuğ Kudsi sent off a good shot on target.

The wind increased when Enginalp Necaettin made the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Van defense, Enginalp Necaettin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Murat Sezgi. The Van fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Murat Sezgi should have stopped the shot. Arif Buğra Savni showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yaşar Köker, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nuratay Aydınoğlu during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Vural Üstünbay shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Enginalp Necaettin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Murat Sezgi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. Van's Murat Sezgi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enginalp Necaettin in the 73rd minute of play.
