The supporters of Göztepe booed when Günyüzü was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Göztepe's Fikri Doğu got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ali Orhan Baytugay during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 13th match minute, Günyüzü was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ali Orhan Baytugay to maneuver through the defense. In the 17th minute, Mete Zade got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Günyüzü's Mete Zade got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Erhun Şendoğan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hakkı Kenan Erçelik in the 27th minute of the match. Özkan İnanöz charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Özkan İnanöz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 27 played minutes Göztepe got a freekick which was hit by Özkan İnanöz. In the 28th minute of the match Batuğ Talaykan shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Erhun Şendoğan showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Hakkı Kenan Erçelik charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hakkı Kenan Erçelik the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hakkı Kenan Erçelik in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erhun Şendoğan saved Göztepe from getting behind. In the 42nd minute, Ahmet Arif Uçuk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mete Zade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erhun Şendoğan having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Mete Zade made the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hakkı Kenan Erçelik got free with Erhun Şendoğan in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Göztepe were awarded a corner in the 62th minute after Günyüzü's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Şemsettin Çokay took the corner. After taking down the ball on Göztepe's corner Şemsettin Çokay fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Bahadırhan Bayraktar quite easily take care of the ball. Günyüzü's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. When Fikri Doğu came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Göztepe fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fikri Doğu couldn't finish the play. Erhun Şendoğan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mete Zade in the 86th minute of play. Göztepe's Erhun Şendoğan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mete Zade in the 91st minute of play. Fikri Doğu struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Bahadırhan Bayraktar didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Göztepe. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
