Başar Torel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lokman Sağlamtürk in the 29th minute of play. In the 31st minute Vinicio Saturnin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Semail Kılıçer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, ŞİMAL YILDIZI's Taha Akkaynak sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Semail Kılıçer narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kenny N'Diaye in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Başar Torel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 46 minutes into the match, ŞİMAL YILDIZI's goal looked a bit too open when Lokman Sağlamtürk came free, but Başar Torel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th match minute, ŞİMAL YILDIZI was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tayyip Bozdağ to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Newells Old Boys were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kenny N'Diaye was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in ŞİMAL YILDIZI's zone, Kenny N'Diaye stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Başar Torel came out of the goal and Kenny N'Diaye tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute Kenny N'Diaye shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Başar Torel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Osman Ali Sağlam made in the 63rd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Alptuğ Behram. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kenny N'Diaye in the 64th minute of play forced ŞİMAL YILDIZI's goalkeeper Başar Torel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lokman Sağlamtürk struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Başar Torel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newells Old Boys. In the 69th minute, Kılıç Ilgınlı hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Semail Kılıçer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tayyip Bozdağ, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lokman Sağlamtürk who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 74thth minute tested the skills of Başar Torel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 76 minutes into the match, ŞİMAL YILDIZI's goal looked a bit too open when Kenny N'Diaye came free, but Başar Torel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aykut Canser was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 82 minutes into the match. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Aykut Canser hit a great ball. Semail Kılıçer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vinicio Saturnin in the 84th minute of play. The supporters of ŞİMAL YILDIZI booed when Newells Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dirk Kuijt didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Babür Hamurcu hit a great ball. 95 minutes into the game, Taha Akkaynak was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. ŞİMAL YILDIZI's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newells Old Boys the free kick. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when ŞİMAL YILDIZI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Taha Akkaynak didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Newells Old Boys supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Newells Old Boys would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
