Petru Sântimbrean tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Calistrat Astafiei kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Mugur Frumușanu charged in rather forcefully in the 23rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mugur Frumușanu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Tonoiu's Mugur Frumușanu got a free kick in the 24th minute. In the 25th minute of the match Iustinian Pârcălab sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Petru Sântimbrean skillfully saved the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Mihnea Bărboianu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Marinesti's supporters rose to their feet, but Mihnea Bărboianu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Petru Sântimbrean breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Gavril Vătăşel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sever Zoreanu made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Lucian Cotuțiu sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Tonoiu's Lucian Cotuțiu got a free kick in the 43rd minute. The supporters of Tonoiu booed when Marinesti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Șerban Avramescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lucian Cotuțiu got free with Sever Zoreanu in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mihnea Bărboianu was the one to do the kick off. Marinesti's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gavril Vătăşel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sever Zoreanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucian Cotuțiu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sever Zoreanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ionuț Băncilă, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. After a rather tough play, Marinesti's Ionuț Achiriloaie got a free kick in the 79th minute. The audience was convinced that Ionuț Băncilă's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sever Zoreanu was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. A collision led to Marinesti getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Ionuț Achiriloaie hit a great ball.
