An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisc Vătavu in the 11th minute of play forced FC Onesti's goalkeeper Eduard Sasu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Tomsa's zone, Sandu Chivu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anton Buzoianu came out of the goal and Sandu Chivu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Tomsa's Gabriel Buzoianu got a free kick in the 20th minute. Dinu Cotuțiu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Anton Buzoianu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. In the 30th minute, FC Onesti's Mihail Purcărete dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. After some careless play in the Tomsa defense, Mugur Croitoru kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Anton Buzoianu. The Tomsa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Anton Buzoianu should have stopped the shot. A hard shot by Gabriel Ciolac from long distance, 43 minutes into the match, got Anton Buzoianu's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Eugen Bacanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Onesti's supporters rose to their feet, but Eugen Bacanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Anton Buzoianu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sandu Chivu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Anton Buzoianu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mihail Purcărete to make the kick off. After 52 played minutes FC Onesti got a freekick which was hit by Marin Voitiş. In the 53rd minute of the match Nicu Giurcă sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Eduard Sasu skillfully saved the ball. Julian Treppa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 64 minutes into the match, Mugur Croitoru had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Anton Buzoianu. Tomsa's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mugur Croitoru was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. When Gabriel Buzoianu fell near the penalty area in the 72nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tomsa's protests and gave Gabriel Buzoianu a yellow card for diving instead. In the 71st minute, one of Tomsa:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Tomsa. Anton Buzoianu came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Onesti's Mihail Purcărete. But to his dismay, Mihail Purcărete quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 7-0. Julian Treppa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anton Buzoianu having to interfere. Anton Buzoianu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mihail Purcărete's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. When Mihail Purcărete came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the FC Onesti fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mihail Purcărete couldn't finish the play. Eduard Ignea kicked well hit freekick during the 99th minute of the match. Anton Buzoianu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mihail Purcărete's shot from short distance in the 100th minute.
