Spectators: 7477 (Terracing: 5609, Seating: 1719, VIP seats: 149) Mereteu AC's Sergiu Spelbu started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mereteu AC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 6th minute, when Erland Lundberg scored to the left of an out of position Nicodim Ghizdeanu, making the score, 1-0. 11 minutes into the match, Geert van der Saar notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Mereteu AC's Nicodim Ghizdeanu. Nicodim Ghizdeanu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Geert van der Saar took the ball and in the 15 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nicodim Ghizdeanu. Nicodim Ghizdeanu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. Nicodim Ghizdeanu made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Geert van der Saar sent off a good shot on target. Nicodim Ghizdeanu was a little too slow when Erland Lundberg got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 23rd minute. The score was now 4-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Alexandru Comarnescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. PHOENIX BUCURESTI's supporters rose to their feet, but Alexandru Comarnescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nicodim Ghizdeanu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nicodim Ghizdeanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erland Lundberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. In the 39th minute, PHOENIX BUCURESTI's Isac Ionașcu dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 5-0. Geert van der Saar came free with the goalkeeper in the 48th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Nicodim Ghizdeanu could save by the left post. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Geert van der Saar to make the kick off. Nicodim Ghizdeanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Irinel Albulescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 59 minutes into the match, Irinel Albulescu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nicodim Ghizdeanu. Mereteu AC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Irinel Albulescu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-0. After a rather tough play, Mereteu AC's Sergiu Spelbu got a free kick in the 61st minute. Sergiu Spelbu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 65thth minute tested the skills of Marius Balc when he managed to save the team from getting behind. PHOENIX BUCURESTI's Geert van der Saar got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 77 minutes into the game, PHOENIX BUCURESTI's Geert van der Saar nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nicodim Ghizdeanu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-0. After 82 minutes, Ciprian Nae mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mereteu AC and the PHOENIX BUCURESTI players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 81st minute, one of Mereteu AC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Mereteu AC. After 86 played minutes PHOENIX BUCURESTI got a freekick which was hit by Geert van der Saar.
