Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) 8 minutes into the match, Balateni AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Codruț Moarcăș came free, but Valentin Nicodim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, U Cluj's Iurie Mihuț got a free kick in the 9th minute. U Cluj's Horia Milcu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save U Cluj from getting a goal against them. A collision led to U Cluj getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Flavius Lovinescu hit a great ball. Manole Lamru received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Horia Milcu came out and tried to block the shot, but Manole Lamru slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 18th minute. Horia Milcu made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Manole Lamru sent off a good shot on target. In the 27th minute Valeriu Nicodim shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horia Milcu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Flavius Lovinescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute, Codruț Moarcăș ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Valentin Nicodim was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Codruț Moarcăș might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Valentin Nicodim. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Codruț Moarcăș ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 39th match minute, Balateni AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marian Vidican to maneuver through the defense. After 40 played minutes U Cluj got a freekick which was hit by Nichifor Ştercă. Valeriu Nicodim was extremely unlucky when he, in the 41st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. When Codruț Moarcăș came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the U Cluj fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Codruț Moarcăș couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marian Vidican during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of U Cluj booed when Balateni AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marian Vidican didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Codruț Moarcăș to make the kick off. Codruț Moarcăș fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valentin Nicodim having to interfere. In the 56th minute, Flavius Lovinescu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Valentin Nicodim stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Codruț Moarcăș's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. After a rather tough play, U Cluj's 康延源 got a free kick in the 61st minute. Luís Paulo Tasso kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind U Cluj's goalkeeper Horia Milcu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Valentin Nicodim was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Codruț Moarcăș showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 66 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valeriu Nicodim in the 76th minute of play forced U Cluj's goalkeeper Horia Milcu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Valentin Nicodim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 康延源 in the 79th minute of play. Horia Milcu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manole Lamru, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Marian Vidican was shown his second yellow card after 86 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 86 played minutes Balateni AFC got a freekick which was hit by Marian Vidican. When Manole Lamru fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Balateni AFC's protests and gave Manole Lamru a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Balateni AFC's Manole Lamru got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Codruț Moarcăș fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valentin Nicodim having to interfere. 94 minutes into the game, Valeriu Nicodim was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Balateni AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U Cluj the free kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Codruț Moarcăș kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Valentin Nicodim. That made the score 2-3 in the 95 minute of play.
