Spectators: 7363 (Terracing: 5635, Seating: 1728, VIP seats: 0) Progresul Vucova's Ionică Butuc played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olimpiu Ponor in the 4th minute of play. The supporters of Progresul Vucova booed when FC Iasi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vintilă Boc didn't get a good kick on the ball. 8 minutes into the match, Progresul Vucova's goalkeeper Ionică Butuc had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Emilian Lupea. When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Olimpiu Ponor sped through Progresul Vucova's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ionică Butuc. Șerban Hârlab struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Ionică Butuc didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Iasi. Ionică Butuc stood somewhat misplaced when Olimpiu Ponor came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 24 minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Octav Amitroaiei in the 28th minute of play forced Progresul Vucova's goalkeeper Ionică Butuc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emilian Lupea received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Ionică Butuc tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 37 minutes into the game, Constantin Ignătescu threw the ball into play from the sideline. FC Iasi's Vintilă Boc quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Ionică Butuc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olimpiu Ponor in the 39th minute of play. Olimpiu Ponor was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 41st minute. FC Iasi's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Cristian Iordănescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Olimpiu Ponor to make the kick off. With a little luck, FC Iasi's Gabriel Horațiu got control of the ball when Gelu Siclovan tried to sneak it across the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, FC Iasi's Emilian Lupea sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ionică Butuc narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ionică Butuc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olimpiu Ponor in the 64th minute of play. After 65 played minutes Progresul Vucova got a freekick which was hit by Ionel Puric. In the 70th minute, Edgar Zbârlea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Olimpiu Ponor recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 76th minute of the match Francisc Cismaș shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ionică Butuc showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 78th minute, Progresul Vucova's Albert Antipa seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Albert Antipa the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Progresul Vucova protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Albert Antipa had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 79th minute there was a penalty for FC Iasi. Olimpiu Ponor stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ionică Butuc. 6-0. Olimpiu Ponor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Ionică Butuc tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 85th minute, Vintilă Boc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gelu Siclovan got free with Gabriel Horațiu in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Progresul Vucova's Constantin Ignătescu shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 91st minute of play. The shot was stopped by Gabriel Horațiu but with some difficulty. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. FC Iasi had played much better football throughout.
