After 2 minutes, Aron Bejgăneanu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Birlad FC and the FC Ciupa players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Birlad FC getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Aron Bejgăneanu hit a great ball. Dragoş Piţurcă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Liviu Vasilian having to interfere. Silviu Marinică struck a weak shot in the 8th minute. Liviu Vasilian didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Ciupa. Birlad FC's Petruț Baniciu got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Petruț Baniciu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Sfârlea having to interfere. Manuel Sfârlea came out of the goal in the 18th minute to try and stop a shot by Birlad FC's Emil Onuț. But to his dismay, Emil Onuț quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Dragoş Piţurcă might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Liviu Vasilian. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dragoş Piţurcă ran back to his position shaking his head. Liviu Vasilian showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dragoş Piţurcă in the 26th minute of the match. Petruț Baniciu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Emil Onuț received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Manuel Sfârlea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 33rd minute, Petruț Baniciu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Emil Onuț sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 41 minutes into the match, FC Ciupa's goal looked a bit too open when Petruț Baniciu came free, but Manuel Sfârlea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Petrică Lucan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Emil Onuț made a kick off. When Emil Onuț came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Birlad FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emil Onuț couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Maxim Mihuleac during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Birlad FC's Maxim Mihuleac got a free kick in the 60th minute. Petrică Lucan hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. If Emil Onuț had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 71st minute, Cornel Mischie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot by Constantin Stroe from long distance, 72 minutes into the match, got Manuel Sfârlea's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. If Petruț Baniciu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Cornel Mischie hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Birlad FC's Petruț Baniciu got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Emil Onuț's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Manuel Sfârlea was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Emil Onuț recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Petruț Baniciu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. FC Ciupa's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Birlad FC the free kick. Birlad FC played a much better game than FC Ciupa and deserved their victory. The FC Ciupa players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
