The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Ionuț Opincaru managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mailat's supporters rose to their feet, but Ionuț Opincaru was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mailat's Mihăiţă Drăucean played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Codrin Stamatiu in the 12th minute of play. Virgil Piersic took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ionuț Opincaru, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 23 played minutes Mailat got a freekick which was hit by Mihăiţă Aliuta. Mihăiţă Drăucean showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Codrin Stamatiu, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. After a rather tough play, Gisteni's Horia Hudiță got a free kick in the 25th minute. 28 minutes into the match, Gisteni's goal looked a bit too open when Ionuț Opincaru came free, but Virgil Piersic reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Gisteni getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Marius Dragușin hit a great ball. With his leg Virgil Piersic managed to avoid a goal in the 32ndth minute, when Mailat's Ionuț Opincaru fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Mihăiţă Drăucean showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manuel Melinescu in the 33rd minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nichifor Rotariu during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Gisteni booed when Mailat was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nichifor Rotariu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 40th minute of the match Maxim Logofeteanu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mihăiţă Drăucean skillfully saved the ball. If Ionuț Opincaru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 43 minutes into the match, Gisteni's goal looked a bit too open when Ionuț Opincaru came free, but Virgil Piersic reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 45 minutes, Ionuț Opincaru made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Gisteni's Virgil Piersic tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Manuel Melinescu to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Mihăiţă Aliuta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Ionuț Opincaru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Mailat fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 54th minute. Penalty! Mihăiţă Drăucean had in the 56thth minute some difficulties stopping Maxim Logofeteanu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After a rather tough play, Mailat's Nichifor Rotariu got a free kick in the 58th minute. In the 59th match minute, Mailat was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leonard Dobre to maneuver through the defense. After 60 played minutes, Gisteni's Maxim Logofeteanu shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Mihăiţă Drăucean came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Gisteni reached it. A collision led to Mailat getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Nichifor Rotariu hit a great ball. Mihăiţă Drăucean made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manuel Melinescu in the 64th minute of play. After 65 minutes of play, Mailat's Ionuț Opincaru made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Virgil Piersic was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 71 played minutes Mailat got a freekick which was hit by Mihăiţă Aliuta. 74 minutes into the match, Mailat's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Melinescu came free, but Mihăiţă Drăucean reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ionuț Opincaru might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Virgil Piersic. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ionuț Opincaru ran back to his position shaking his head. Ionuț Opincaru might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Virgil Piersic. If Romeo Constantin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience was convinced that Ionuț Opincaru's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Virgil Piersic was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. Ovidiu Bușcu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Virgil Piersic having to interfere. Irinel Guriță kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. Mailat's Ovidiu Bușcu got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice moves Codrin Stamatiu could shoot a difficult shot in the 93rd minute, which Mihăiţă Drăucean however easily saved by the left post. There was no doubt that Mailat were the better team. Mailat's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
