Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Ferdinand Martinaș started the match with the kick off. Ferdinand Martinaș received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Niculae Harbuz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Niculae Harbuz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ferdinand Martinaș, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. After having played for 13 minutes, Ferdinand Martinaș managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Steaua United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ferdinand Martinaș was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Giurgeni's Pavel Stoicănescu got a free kick in the 14th minute. With a little luck, Steaua United's Ion Gherghescu got control of the ball when Ovidiu Dancu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ion Gherghescu came out of the goal in the 29th minute to try and stop a shot by Giurgeni's Ovidiu Dancu. But to his dismay, Ovidiu Dancu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 33 minutes into the game, Mihai Stăniloaie was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Steaua United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Giurgeni the free kick. The supporters of Giurgeni booed when Steaua United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mihai Stăniloaie didn't get a good kick on the ball. Giurgeni's Lucian Bosioc shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 34th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Ion Gherghescu but with some difficulty. In the 38th minute, Matei Văcărescu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ion Gherghescu. The goal made the score 2-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Victor Ghercioiu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Steaua United's supporters rose to their feet, but Victor Ghercioiu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Niculae Harbuz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ion Gherghescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matei Văcărescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

In the 54th minute, Radu Sbârcea sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Giurgeni's Niculae Harbuz didn't even have to move. Giurgeni's Ovidiu Dancu got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Matei Văcărescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ion Gherghescu having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matei Văcărescu in the 65th minute of play forced Steaua United's goalkeeper Ion Gherghescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ovidiu Dancu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Matei Văcărescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ovidiu Dancu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ion Gherghescu having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Steaua United's Mihai Stăniloaie got a free kick in the 81st minute. Ovidiu Dancu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Ion Gherghescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Mihai Stăniloaie was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 87 minutes had been played. Mihai Stăniloaie kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. After 90 played minutes Giurgeni got a freekick which was hit by Dan Şoimu. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Matei Văcărescu in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ion Gherghescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Matei Văcărescu blasted a shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ion Gherghescu having to make a save. Giurgeni walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
