Ion Gherghescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. 22 minutes into the match, Dinamo's goal looked a bit too open when Ferdinand Martinaș came free, but Marcu Harhoiu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Avram Bârlea received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Ion Gherghescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gavril Măliță fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ion Gherghescu having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Gavril Măliță managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dinamo's supporters rose to their feet, but Gavril Măliță was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ion Gherghescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Dinamo's Mugurel Ene got a free kick in the 39th minute. Avram Bârlea struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Ion Gherghescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dinamo. 43 minutes into the match, Steaua United's goal looked a bit too open when Gavril Măliță came free, but Ion Gherghescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Steaua United's Ion Gherghescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gavril Măliță in the 45th minute of play.

Ion Gherghescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gavril Măliță in the 54th minute of play. If Gavril Măliță had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. Gavril Măliță recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Marcu Harhoiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ferdinand Martinaș in the 65th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Avram Bârlea in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ion Gherghescu saved Steaua United from getting behind. Dinamo's Avram Bârlea got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Victor Ghercioiu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcu Harhoiu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Avram Bârlea in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ion Gherghescu saved Steaua United from getting behind. In the 87th minute, Avram Bârlea got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 94th minute Gavril Măliță shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ion Gherghescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There was no doubt that Dinamo were the better team. Dinamo's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
