Petrică Ciolacu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nistor Curuțiu. FC STEAUA ADJ's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matei Iulian in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nistor Curuțiu saved FC STEAUA ADJ from getting behind. Matei Iulian received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Nistor Curuțiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 33rd minute Iurie Robu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mircea Apostolescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Francisc Onișoru managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC STEAUA ADJ's supporters rose to their feet, but Francisc Onișoru was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mircea Apostolescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Iurie Robu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute there was a penalty for FC STEAUA ADJ. Silviu Tadici stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Mircea Apostolescu. 1-3. After the first half FC STEAUA ADJ were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Iurie Robu to strike the kick off in the second half. Iurie Robu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mircea Apostolescu having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Francisc Onișoru got free with Mircea Apostolescu in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Iurie Robu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC STEAUA ADJ's supporters rose to their feet, but Iurie Robu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. After a defensive mix-up in Ulea's zone, Francisc Onișoru stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mircea Apostolescu came out of the goal and Francisc Onișoru tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Iurie Robu in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mircea Apostolescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Francisc Onișoru could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Mircea Apostolescu made a huge save. A collision led to Ulea getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Vali Pascu hit a great ball. In the 87th minute Iurie Robu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mircea Apostolescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Iurie Robu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Costică Costa might have been able to make a better finish in the 97th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nistor Curuțiu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Costică Costa ran back to his position shaking his head.
