Ionut's supporters rose to their feet, but Nae Adam was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lucrețiu Şerb breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Aurelian Simionică received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Lucrețiu Şerb tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romeo Agrigoroaiei took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 28th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Lucrețiu Şerb. Stenea's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 29 minutes into the game, Nistor Albulescu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The referee ignored Stenea's protests and gave Octavian Gheorghe a yellow card for diving instead. When Aurelian Simionică came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Ionut fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aurelian Simionică couldn't finish the play. Nicu Micescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ionel Alupoaie in the 82nd minute of play. In the 84th minute, Dorel Oțeteleșanu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Ionut supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ionut would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
