FC Timisoara's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valeriu Blăniță was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to FC POLI getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Nicu Zbârcea hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Gigi Aaxiniei managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Timisoara's supporters rose to their feet, but Gigi Aaxiniei was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alin Vermeşan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gigi Ignea's late challenge caught a FC POLI's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gigi Ignea helped the player get up and apologised. In the 22nd minute, Gigi Ignea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 23rd minute, Paul Văcaru left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC POLI fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 27 minutes into the match, FC Timisoara's goal looked a bit too open when Manole Porumbescu came free, but Aristide Armeanca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aristide Armeanca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paul Văcaru, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nicu Zbârcea during the 34th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC POLI's Nicu Zbârcea got a free kick in the 34th minute. After a defensive mix-up in FC Timisoara's zone, Filip Luțu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aristide Armeanca came out of the goal and Filip Luțu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Gigi Aaxiniei had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 54th minute, but Aristide Armeanca got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving FC Timisoara hanging dry this time. Gigi Aaxiniei recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gigi Aaxiniei struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Alin Vermeşan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Timisoara. The supporters of FC POLI booed when FC Timisoara was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cezar Jienescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. 66 minutes into the game, Filip Luțu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC POLI's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Timisoara the free kick. In the 67th minute, Filip Luțu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 68th minute of the match Iustin Tarchilă shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Alin Vermeşan showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 70th minute, Cezar Jienescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 75th minute of the game. One of FC Timisoara:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FC POLI:s goal. Gigi Aaxiniei fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alin Vermeşan having to interfere. Aristide Armeanca showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paul Văcaru in the 88th minute of the match. Alin Vermeşan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gigi Aaxiniei in the 98th minute of play.
