An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexandru Panciu in the 3rd minute of play forced Old Boys's goalkeeper Mihail Magheran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Old Boys getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Stelian Hârțan hit a great ball. In the 8th minute, David Popean sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Old Boys's Mihail Magheran didn't even have to move. Mihail Magheran didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 9th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. Mihail Magheran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alexandru Panciu in the 16th minute of play. Stelian Hârțan hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcu Becheanu in the 21st minute of play forced CFR Cluj's goalkeeper Marcu Cucerzan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alexandru Panciu was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 25th minute. CFR Cluj's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Horia Grama received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Mihail Magheran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mihail Magheran made an important save on a dangerous shot by Horia Grama in the 36th minute. In the 38th minute Marcu Becheanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcu Cucerzan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alexandru Panciu in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mihail Magheran prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Old Boys getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Stelian Hârțan hit a great ball. CFR Cluj were awarded a corner in the 44th minute after Old Boys's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. David Popean took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Alexandru Panciu got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Mihail Magheran quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Adam Iovanovici to make the kick off. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by CFR Cluj's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Adam Bălanescu was slow to take the kick. During this time Old Boys's players had a chance to rest. Horia Grama received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Mihail Magheran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 67th minute, Horia Grama got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 69 played minutes Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Sergiu Zgârcu. Stelian Hârțan kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. When Horia Grama came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the CFR Cluj fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Horia Grama couldn't finish the play. Old Boys's Mihail Magheran played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Horia Grama in the 81st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Old Boys's zone, Alexandru Panciu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mihail Magheran came out of the goal and Alexandru Panciu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Alexandru Panciu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 90 minutes into the game, Sergiu Zgârcu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Old Boys's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave CFR Cluj the free kick. After a rather tough play, Old Boys's Sergiu Zgârcu got a free kick in the 90th minute. 97 minutes into the match, Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Alexandru Panciu came free, but Mihail Magheran reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
