Radu Hurmuzescu charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Radu Hurmuzescu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pompiliu Nistor prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in UimireaMaracineni's zone, Gică Budulea stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pompiliu Nistor came out of the goal and Gică Budulea tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sorin Pârlog struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Pompiliu Nistor didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FCSB. 45 minutes into the match, FCSB's goal looked a bit too open when Marian Chimeț came free, but Toader Panin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sorin Pârlog received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Pompiliu Nistor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 48th minute, Irinel Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. FCSB's Sorin Pârlog got a good chance for a goal in the 49th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mihnea Archiudean stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Radu Hurmuzescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FCSB's Radu Hurmuzescu got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ionică Romulus fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pompiliu Nistor having to interfere. After some careless play in the UimireaMaracineni defense, Ionică Romulus kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pompiliu Nistor. The UimireaMaracineni fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pompiliu Nistor should have stopped the shot. In the 64th minute, UimireaMaracineni's Răzvan Iriza seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Răzvan Iriza the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of UimireaMaracineni protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Răzvan Iriza had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Radu Hurmuzescu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 66th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Pompiliu Nistor. UimireaMaracineni's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Sorin Pârlog had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Șerban Sucigan during the 69th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Vlad Dedu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Radu Hurmuzescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 99th minute of the match David Dijmărescu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pompiliu Nistor skillfully saved the ball.
