The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sorin Câmpeanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Valeriu Trăiloiu fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gageni AC's protests and gave Valeriu Trăiloiu a yellow card for diving instead. In the 11th match minute, Gageni AC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valeriu Trăiloiu to maneuver through the defense. Calistrat Berceanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ionel Bălțăteanu made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Ionică Uzuneanu sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to CatusBelicus getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Valer Geantă hit a great ball. 25 minutes into the match, Ivan Andronescu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Daniel Aanuţei. Gageni AC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ivan Andronescu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 29th minute, Ionică Uzuneanu fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Sorin Câmpeanu struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Ionel Bălțăteanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gageni AC. After a defensive mix-up in CatusBelicus's zone, Ionică Uzuneanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ionel Bălțăteanu came out of the goal and Ionică Uzuneanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ionel Bălțăteanu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ionică Uzuneanu in the 45th minute. Gageni AC's Daniel Aanuţei played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doru Turcan in the 48th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Calistrat Berceanu made a kick off. After 53 played minutes CatusBelicus got a freekick which was hit by Gică Chițac. Ionel Bălțăteanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ionică Uzuneanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gageni AC's Ionică Uzuneanu got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daniel Aanuţei showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Calistrat Berceanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. If Doru Turcan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 72 minutes, Calistrat Berceanu took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Daniel Aanuţei to make any attempt to save it. Nicodim Hidiș's late challenge caught a Gageni AC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nicodim Hidiș helped the player get up and apologised. In a very dangerous position, a player in CatusBelicus fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 75th minute. Penalty! In the 84th minute, Sorin Câmpeanu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ionel Bălțăteanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. Gageni AC's Sorin Câmpeanu pulled a muscle in his back after 93 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Gageni AC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
