When Francisc Dragota came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the CSM Resiţa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francisc Dragota couldn't finish the play. In the 23rd minute, Niculae Doman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 26 minutes into the match, CSM Resiţa's Francisc Dragota sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Șerban Lăzăroiu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 28 minutes into the game, Francisc Dragota cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Felix Mihăescu made a kick off. In the 52nd minute Felix Mihăescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ferdinand Pandrea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Niculae Doman could shoot a difficult shot in the 54th minute, which Ferdinand Pandrea however easily saved by the left post. Ferdinand Pandrea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Mihăescu in the 66th minute of play. In the 72nd minute, Francisc Dragota ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Șerban Lăzăroiu was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisc Dragota in the 75th minute of play forced F.C. Lupeni's goalkeeper Șerban Lăzăroiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 80th minute, Felix Mihăescu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The F.C. Lupeni fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. 84 minutes into the game, CSM Resiţa's Francisc Dragota nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Șerban Lăzăroiu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Francisc Dragota managed to get in a good position for a shot. CSM Resiţa's supporters rose to their feet, but Francisc Dragota was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Șerban Lăzăroiu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Francisc Dragota might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Șerban Lăzăroiu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Francisc Dragota ran back to his position shaking his head. When Francisc Dragota fell near the penalty area in the 97th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CSM Resiţa's protests and gave Francisc Dragota a yellow card for diving instead. In the 97th match minute, CSM Resiţa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Francisc Dragota to maneuver through the defense. There was no doubt that CSM Resiţa were the better team. CSM Resiţa's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
