Lupeni fans' excitement grew in the 4th match minute when F.C. Lupeni's Niculae Doman looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Șerban Lăzăroiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristi Surdilă, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 8th minute, Dorel Goiciu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Niculae Doman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Dacian Valeca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Felix Mihăescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Stelian Lupoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 23rd minute Dacian Valeca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Șerban Lăzăroiu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 24 minutes, Cristi Surdilă managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tottenham AB's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristi Surdilă was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristi Surdilă struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Șerban Lăzăroiu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tottenham AB. Niculae Doman blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Stelian Lupoi having to make a save. F.C. Lupeni's Felix Mihăescu got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tottenham AB's Stelian Lupoi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Tottenham AB from getting a goal against them. Felix Mihăescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Stelian Lupoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Niculae Doman succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-0 in the 40th playminute. In the 44th minute the ball was on its way in behind F.C. Lupeni's goalkeeper Șerban Lăzăroiu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some careless play in the F.C. Lupeni defense, Dacian Valeca kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Șerban Lăzăroiu. The F.C. Lupeni fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Șerban Lăzăroiu should have stopped the shot. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cristi Surdilă stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 59 minutes into the match, F.C. Lupeni's Felix Mihăescu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Stelian Lupoi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cristi Surdilă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Șerban Lăzăroiu having to interfere. The supporters of Tottenham AB booed when F.C. Lupeni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rareș Ailioaiei didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tottenham AB's Cristi Surdilă got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
