Dan Ştoia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabian Drumeș having to interfere. Narcis Chițu charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Narcis Chițu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Narcis Chițu hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. With his leg Adrian Bocaneț managed to avoid a goal in the 22ndth minute, when AC Timisoara BTV's Sorin Purcărete fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a defensive mix-up in AC Timisoara BTV's zone, Dan Ştoia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabian Drumeș came out of the goal and Dan Ştoia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, AC Timisoara BTV's Augustin Carp got a free kick in the 25th minute. Mugur Mardare sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dan Baran kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. The SSC Steaua fans' excitement grew in the 33rd match minute when SSC Steaua's Mihail Tulbure looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Fabian Drumeș showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dan Ştoia, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 37th minute, Augustin Carp hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mihail Tulbure took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabian Drumeș. Fabian Drumeș dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After 48 played minutes SSC Steaua got a freekick which was hit by Dan Baran. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mihail Tulbure to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Mihail Tulbure managed to get in a good position for a shot. SSC Steaua's supporters rose to their feet, but Mihail Tulbure was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabian Drumeș breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Mihail Tulbure had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of SSC Steaua booed when AC Timisoara BTV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anton Orășan didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match was over SSC Steaua could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than AC Timisoara BTV throughout the match.
