When Emil Opriș came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Sporting fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emil Opriș couldn't finish the play. Albert Lozovan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Flavius Brășneanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. Sporting's Sebastian Voitiş got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 24 minutes into the game, Panait Surugiu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Flavius Brășneanu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emil Opriș in the 45th minute of play forced Cirnesti's goalkeeper Flavius Brășneanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
