After a defensive mix-up in UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA's zone, Petre Buta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Codruț Răduț came out of the goal and Petre Buta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA's Vasile Rizea got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 43 minutes, Silviu Gâdea mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Jiul Petrosani 1919 and the UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA booed when Jiul Petrosani 1919 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vasile Rizea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vasile Rizea came free with the goalkeeper in the 85th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Constantin Basarab could save by the left post. Marius Luican's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Constantin Basarab read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. Petre Buta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 92 minutes into the match, Jiul Petrosani 1919's Silviu Gâdea sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Codruț Răduț narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Constantin Basarab took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marius Luican, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
