Spectators: 7481 (Terracing: 5612, Seating: 1720, VIP seats: 149) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Manuel Spârlea started the match with the kick off. After 4 played minutes Lupeni FCM got a freekick which was hit by Denis Eremia. Ferdinand Rânceanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Viorel Stroe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gelu Udrişte hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. If Ionică Tudor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Lupeni FCM booed when Cotina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gelu Udrişte didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ionică Tudor came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Cotina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ionică Tudor couldn't finish the play. After having played for 25 minutes, Petru Hortopan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cotina's supporters crossed their fingers, but Petru Hortopan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 26th minute Ionică Tudor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Viorel Stroe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ferdinand Rânceanu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sabin Vlădean's late challenge caught a Lupeni FCM's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sabin Vlădean helped the player get up and apologised. In the 34th match minute, Cotina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sabin Vlădean to maneuver through the defense. Ferdinand Rânceanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Viorel Stroe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Ionică Tudor might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Viorel Stroe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ionică Tudor ran back to his position shaking his head. Ferdinand Rânceanu struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Viorel Stroe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cotina. After 62 played minutes Cotina's Ionică Tudor stole the ball from his opponents and shot the ball towards the upper left corner, but Viorel Stroe stretched himself as far as he could, and stopped the ball from passing the line. robbing Lupeni FCM of the goal. 66 minutes into the match, Ferdinand Rânceanu dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Viorel Stroe, 1-2. The Cotina fans' excitement grew in the 77th match minute when Cotina's Ferdinand Rânceanu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ionică Tudor struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Viorel Stroe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cotina. 1-4 became the score in the 85th minute when Ferdinand Rânceanu elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Viorel Stroe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ferdinand Rânceanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lupeni FCM's goalkeeper Viorel Stroe, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Viorel Stroe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ferdinand Rânceanu in the 94th minute of play.
