Benfica FC's Rareș Ştercă played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iacob Zgabei in the 19th minute of play. Rareș Ştercă showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gigel Dordea in the 25th minute of the match. Rareș Ştercă made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Doru Mercea in the 26th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gigel Dordea in the 27th minute of play forced Benfica FC's goalkeeper Rareș Ştercă to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 28th minute, Doru Mercea made a precise shot to the right of Rareș Ştercă. Benfica FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filip Pârcălab in the 31st minute of play forced Dezesti CF's goalkeeper Ilie Dridu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Augustin Tănăsie might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ilie Dridu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rareș Ştercă showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Iacob Zgabei, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 40th minute Doru Mercea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rareș Ştercă saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gabriel Bodea hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. 43 minutes into the match, Benfica FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gigel Dordea came free, but Rareș Ştercă reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cosmin Brăiloiu the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Benfica FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cosmin Brăiloiu had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 60 minutes into the match, Benfica FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cornel Oroveanu came free, but Rareș Ştercă reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rareș Ştercă was out of position in the 63 minute of play, and Doru Mercea capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Doru Mercea really showed his touch with that goal: 0-4.
