Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Liviu Lucaci started the match with the kick off. 5 minutes into the game, Mihăiţă Brezeanu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Herla's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Hermannstadt the free kick. A collision led to Herla getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Mihăiţă Brezeanu hit a great ball. 6 minutes into the game, FC Hermannstadt's Nicodim Curtean nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gică Cârnațiu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Nicodim Curtean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mihăiţă Brezeanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valeriu Buzea having to interfere. 15 minutes into the game, Ivan Marghescu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Hermannstadt's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Herla the free kick. Valeriu Buzea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vasile Bocaneț in the 16th minute. Liviu Lucaci sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cornel Ciungu in the 20th minute of play forced Herla's goalkeeper Gică Cârnațiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nicodim Curtean during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 21 played minutes FC Hermannstadt got a freekick which was hit by Nicodim Curtean. Calistrat Bordeanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valeriu Buzea read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. Edgar Vernescu's late challenge caught a Herla's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edgar Vernescu helped the player get up and apologised. Gică Cârnațiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cornel Ciungu in the 27th minute of the match. Irinel Cârnu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valeriu Buzea having to interfere. Gică Cârnațiu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cornel Ciungu in the 43rd minute of play. Herla's Irinel Cârnu got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After the first half FC Hermannstadt were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nicodim Curtean was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Liviu Lucaci in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valeriu Buzea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 54 minutes into the game, Aristide Creangă was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Hermannstadt's Valeriu Buzea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Liviu Lucaci in the 55th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Irinel Cârnu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match had gone on for 59 minutes, Liviu Lucaci put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Valeriu Buzea. If Liviu Lucaci had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Irinel Cârnu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 68th minute Calistrat Bordeanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valeriu Buzea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Cornel Ciungu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 76th minute, Nicodim Curtean got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Nicodim Curtean notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Herla's Gică Cârnațiu. Gică Cârnațiu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 84th match minute, FC Hermannstadt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cornel Ciungu to maneuver through the defense. Cezar Adomniței received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Valeriu Buzea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in FC Hermannstadt's zone, Irinel Cârnu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valeriu Buzea came out of the goal and Irinel Cârnu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Calistrat Bordeanu in the 91st minute of play forced FC Hermannstadt's goalkeeper Valeriu Buzea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Irinel Cârnu struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Valeriu Buzea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Herla. An unexpectedly hard shot by Irinel Cârnu in the 95th minute of play forced FC Hermannstadt's goalkeeper Valeriu Buzea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Herla manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing FC Hermannstadt to win.
