The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Filip Grama helped the player get up and apologised. After 7 played minutes FC Xander got a freekick which was hit by Filip Grama. With a little luck, FC Xander's Horaţiu Gherdan got control of the ball when Aron Daria tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vasile Dascălu in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Toader Hojbota prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Toader Hojbota didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Basarab Odobescu went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Vasile Dascălu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toader Hojbota having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basarab Odobescu in the 20th minute of play forced Varbilau's goalkeeper Toader Hojbota to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Toader Hojbota showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Odobescu in the 22nd minute of the match. Călin Lucrețiu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aron Daria got free with Horaţiu Gherdan in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Virgil Mineață had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Varbilau booed when FC Xander was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filip Grama didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Varbilau's zone, Basarab Odobescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toader Hojbota came out of the goal and Basarab Odobescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 45 minutes, Mugurel Lera mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varbilau and the FC Xander players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 45 played minutes Varbilau got a freekick which was hit by Mugurel Lera. If Aron Daria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Basarab Odobescu to make the kick off. FC Xander's Horaţiu Gherdan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Călin Lucrețiu in the 85th minute of play. After having played for 91 minutes, Vasile Dascălu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Xander's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vasile Dascălu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Basarab Odobescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Toader Hojbota tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 97 minutes Varbilau's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Leonard Bărboianu who took care of the corner kick. FC Xander's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
