In the 4th minute, Emanuel Firea made a precise shot to the right of Gică Cârnațiu. Herla's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. After 12 minutes, Codrin Traianescu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Republica Ploiești and the Herla players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 12th match minute, Republica Ploiești was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Codrin Traianescu to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 13 minutes, Liviu Lucaci managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Herla's supporters crossed their fingers, but Liviu Lucaci was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 16thth minute of the game Emanuel Firea who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Herla's Gică Cârnațiu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gică Cârnațiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dan Godeanu in the 18th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dan Godeanu in the 20th minute of play forced Herla's goalkeeper Gică Cârnațiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Herla's Gică Cârnațiu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dan Godeanu in the 21st minute of play. 23 minutes into the match, Emanuel Firea had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gică Cârnațiu. Herla's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Emanuel Firea was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After 25 played minutes Republica Ploiești got a freekick which was hit by Ioan Brânza. Gică Cârnațiu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Emanuel Firea's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. 32 minutes into the match, Herla's goal looked a bit too open when Dan Godeanu came free, but Gică Cârnațiu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Irinel Cârnu hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Liviu Lucaci struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Manuel Lăcătuș didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Herla. In the 43rdth minute of the game Emanuel Firea who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Herla's Gică Cârnațiu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Republica Ploiești made a substitution. Sebastian Hoduț replaced Ioan Brânza. In the 55th match minute, Republica Ploiești was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Costică Codrea to maneuver through the defense. 62 minutes into the game, Mihăiţă Brezeanu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gică Cârnațiu came out of the goal and Dan Godeanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gică Cârnațiu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Emanuel Firea in the 67th minute. When Cezar Adomniței fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Herla's protests and gave Cezar Adomniței a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Herla fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 69th minute. Penalty! Gică Cârnațiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nichifor Micescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 91 played minutes Republica Ploiești got a freekick which was hit by Costică Codrea. Gică Cârnațiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nichifor Micescu in the 97th minute of the match. Costel Lepuș hit a great freekick 98 minutes into the match. Liviu Lucaci fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 99th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Lăcătuș having to interfere. If Irinel Cârnu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 101st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Republica Ploiești were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Herla's much stronger midfield.
