Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Cristi Corbeanu started the match with the kick off. Horaţiu Bogrea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gavril Stănilă in the 7th minute of play. Carpeni Athletic's Petrică Grindeanu got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Teodor Cosâmbescu fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Steaua's protests and gave Teodor Cosâmbescu a yellow card for diving instead. Teodor Cosâmbescu kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Carpeni Athletic's Petrică Grindeanu got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Costel Ghizdeanu's late challenge caught a Carpeni Athletic's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Costel Ghizdeanu helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Steaua getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Costel Ghizdeanu hit a great ball. If Horia Cretan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Horaţiu Bogrea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nicodim Orădan's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. A collision led to Carpeni Athletic getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Lucrețiu Brădea hit a great ball. After 37 played minutes Carpeni Athletic got a freekick which was hit by Codruț Neagoe. Cristi Corbeanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Isac Râznicu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 41 minutes into the game, Codruț Neagoe was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Carpeni Athletic's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Steaua the free kick. When Horia Cretan came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Steaua fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Horia Cretan couldn't finish the play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicodim Orădan to make the kick off. If Nicodim Orădan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 54 minutes, Cristi Corbeanu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Carpeni Athletic's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristi Corbeanu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Isac Râznicu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristi Corbeanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. 60 minutes into the match, Carpeni Athletic's goal looked a bit too open when Nicodim Orădan came free, but Horaţiu Bogrea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Isac Râznicu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Petrică Grindeanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Horaţiu Bogrea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Horia Cretan in the 65th minute. After 67 played minutes Steaua got a freekick which was hit by Costel Ghizdeanu. In the 68th minute, Cristi Corbeanu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Isac Râznicu was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. After having played for 77 minutes, Nicodim Orădan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Steaua's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nicodim Orădan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 84thth minute of the game Horia Cretan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Carpeni Athletic's Horaţiu Bogrea was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petrică Grindeanu in the 88th minute of play forced Steaua's goalkeeper Isac Râznicu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Horia Cretan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Horaţiu Bogrea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. During the 92nd minute of the match Codruț Neagoe completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Codruț Neagoe a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 93rd minute, Codruț Neagoe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 94th minute, Ilie Aanuţei sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Carpeni Athletic's Horaţiu Bogrea didn't even have to move.
