Isac Râznicu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Avram Dănănae went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Damian Zafiu in the 17th minute of play forced Steaua's goalkeeper Isac Râznicu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rapid București's Stelian Tutuianu quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Horaţiu Armeanca, made in the 19th minute of the game. 21 minutes into the match, Rapid București's goalkeeper Bobby Ares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Horia Cretan. The supporters of Rapid București booed when Steaua was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavril Stănilă didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Avram Dănănae's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Isac Râznicu was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. After the first half Rapid București were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

It was a penalty for Rapid București! The referee gave Steaua a penalty, 56 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Ilie Aanuţei, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Rapid București's Bobby Ares. 2-2. In the 59th minute, Damian Zafiu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Isac Râznicu was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. Horia Cretan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bobby Ares having to interfere. After 63 played minutes Rapid București got a freekick which was hit by Gigi Vermeşan. In the 67th match minute, Rapid București was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gigi Vermeşan to maneuver through the defense. Stelian Tutuianu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Isac Râznicu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gigi Vermeşan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Isac Râznicu having to make a save. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Stelian Tutuianu took a quick shot and it went in 2-4 without a chance for Isac Râznicu to make any attempt to save it. Horaţiu Armeanca charged in rather forcefully in the 82nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Horaţiu Armeanca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 82 played minutes Steaua got a freekick which was hit by Horaţiu Armeanca. Damian Zafiu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Damian Zafiu came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Rapid București fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damian Zafiu couldn't finish the play. Gigi Vermeşan might have been able to make a better finish in the 89th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Isac Râznicu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gigi Vermeşan ran back to his position shaking his head. Bobby Ares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nicodim Orădan, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. If Vali Cercelescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 98 minutes into the match, Rapid București's Vali Cercelescu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Isac Râznicu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rapid București's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
