F C Olt's Ciprian Cojan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Barascu in the 6th minute of play. A collision led to F C Olt getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Matei Purcărete hit a great ball. The supporters of F C Olt booed when Universitatea Cluj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Universitatea Cluj's Dan Ciuhandu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Universitatea Cluj from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Universitatea Cluj's Dan Ciuhandu got control of the ball when Olimpiu Opaina tried to sneak it across the goal line. F C Olt's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Răzvan Stolojan in the 21st minute. A nice corner shot did that Răzvan Stolojan got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Dan Ciuhandu quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Ciprian Cojan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Barascu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Grigore Sfetcu charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Grigore Sfetcu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Matei Purcărete scored 2-2 in the 45th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dan Ciuhandu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Grigore Sfetcu made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Grigore Sfetcu in the 52nd minute of play forced F C Olt's goalkeeper Ciprian Cojan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th minute, Adrian Barascu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Universitatea Cluj fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Adrian Barascu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciprian Cojan having to interfere. In the 62nd minute, Emil Stănciulaş ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ciprian Cojan was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4. Ciprian Cojan was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Claudiu Haidău showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-5 in the 66 minute of play. If Grigore Sfetcu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 71 minutes into the match, F C Olt's goal looked a bit too open when Claudiu Haidău came free, but Ciprian Cojan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 72nd minute Nistor Zafiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dan Ciuhandu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ciprian Cojan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adrian Barascu in the 76th minute. Ciprian Cojan made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Adrian Barascu sent off a good shot on target. 80 minutes into the match, F C Olt's goalkeeper Ciprian Cojan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adrian Barascu. Panait Alamaru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciprian Cojan having to interfere. Ciprian Cojan was out of position in the 86 minute of play, and Adrian Barascu capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Adrian Barascu really showed his touch with that goal: 2-6. The attack was good, but when Grigore Sfetcu in the 93rd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. When Emil Stănciulaş came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Universitatea Cluj fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emil Stănciulaş couldn't finish the play. When the match was over Universitatea Cluj could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than F C Olt throughout the match.
