GLADIATORII's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Liverpool FC the free kick. Liverpool FC's Ioan Agudin was substituted for Gică Herlea. After having played for 15 minutes, Nechifor Hurmuz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. GLADIATORII's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nechifor Hurmuz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ilie Cârnațiu made in the 20th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by GLADIATORII's Anton Vătafu. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silviu Jilăveanu in the 21st minute of play forced GLADIATORII's goalkeeper Marcel Frunză to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nechifor Hurmuz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Petruț Brădea having to interfere. After 27 played minutes GLADIATORII got a freekick which was hit by Pompiliu Hritcu. Silviu Jilăveanu scored 0-1 in the 33rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Marcel Frunză, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Viorel Ilinca charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Viorel Ilinca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

GLADIATORII's attentive Petre Bărbuceanu managed to snatch the ball when Emanuel Runcu made a throw-in in the 53rd minute of the game. When Petre Bărbuceanu came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the GLADIATORII fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Petre Bărbuceanu couldn't finish the play.
