FC POLI TIMISOARA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nelson Mendoza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. UFC STEAUA's Cezar Alexandru got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 18 minutes into the match, FC POLI TIMISOARA's goalkeeper Cazimir Marincean had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hermengildo Jobo. After 19 played minutes FC POLI TIMISOARA got a freekick which was hit by Manuel Culiță. After 22 minutes of play, UFC STEAUA's Cezar Alexandru made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cazimir Marincean was left in no man's land by his defense there! João Massa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dinu Gheondea's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. The corner ended in Manuel Culiță almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but UFC STEAUA's João Massa did a great save. Cazimir Marincean showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cezar Alexandru, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. After 33 minutes of play, UFC STEAUA's Hermengildo Jobo made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cazimir Marincean was left in no man's land by his defense there! 37 minutes into the match, FC POLI TIMISOARA's goal looked a bit too open when Nelson Mendoza came free, but Cazimir Marincean reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 40th minute, Nelson Mendoza reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Cazimir Marincean. The goal made the score 6-0. After 43 played minutes FC POLI TIMISOARA got a freekick which was hit by Manuel Culiță. Cezar Alexandru succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 7-0 in the 45th playminute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 7-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dinu Gheondea to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Mendoza in the 52nd minute of play forced FC POLI TIMISOARA's goalkeeper Cazimir Marincean to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th minute Hermengildo Jobo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cazimir Marincean saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 59 minutes into the game, UFC STEAUA's Nelson Mendoza nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cazimir Marincean made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-0. After some careless play in the FC POLI TIMISOARA defense, Nelson Mendoza kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cazimir Marincean. The FC POLI TIMISOARA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cazimir Marincean should have stopped the shot. In the 73rd minute, Therkild Prendorf left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The UFC STEAUA fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 10-0. After 76 minutes, Cezar Alexandru made it 11-0 with a short kick to the right side. FC POLI TIMISOARA's Cazimir Marincean tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 79 minutes into the match, FC POLI TIMISOARA's goal looked a bit too open when Cezar Alexandru came free, but Cazimir Marincean reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of UFC STEAUA booed when FC POLI TIMISOARA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albert Stelea didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, FC POLI TIMISOARA's Rareș Mazăre got a free kick in the 95th minute. When the referee ended the match the UFC STEAUA players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
