Claudiu Itu was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Augustin Pitiș received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. With an all-out effort, Smirna's Gigi Zamfira threw himself towards the right post 45 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Lucian Negulescu, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
