The referee felt a red card was in order, 17 minutes into the game, when Narcis Copil put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 17th minute of the game. One of Poli AEK:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of ProRapid:s goal. Nicolae Ghiorman had in the 19thth minute some difficulties stopping Giovani da Rocha's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Nicolae Ghiorman came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by ProRapid's Giovani da Rocha. But to his dismay, Giovani da Rocha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Giovani da Rocha got free with Nicolae Ghiorman in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nicolae Ghiorman made an important save on a dangerous shot by Giovani da Rocha in the 24th minute. Nicolae Ghiorman was left in no man's land by his defense there! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Giovani da Rocha in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nicolae Ghiorman prevented the ball from getting in the gole. ProRapid's Endrik Verde got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
