The audience was convinced that Charilaos Triantafyllou's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Helmuth Duckadam was relentless in the 2nd minute of the game. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 11th match minute, Ticul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexandru Chinezu to maneuver through the defense. 15 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ticul's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Bert Van Boxstael was slow to take the kick. During this time Doxa Beregsau Mare's players had a chance to rest. In the 17th match minute, Ticul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexandru Chinezu to maneuver through the defense. After 18 played minutes, Doxa Beregsau Mare's Bert Van Boxstael shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Helmuth Duckadam came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Doxa Beregsau Mare reached it. In the 22nd minute, Charilaos Triantafyllou ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Helmuth Duckadam was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 27th minute Charilaos Triantafyllou shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Helmuth Duckadam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 28th match minute, Ticul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geraldo Correia to maneuver through the defense. Helmuth Duckadam came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by Doxa Beregsau Mare's Valeriu Buzgar. But to his dismay, Valeriu Buzgar quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. In the 41st minute, Alexandru Chinezu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Valeriu Buzgar came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Doxa Beregsau Mare fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valeriu Buzgar couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Charilaos Triantafyllou stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vintilă Barascu in the 53rd minute of play forced Doxa Beregsau Mare's goalkeeper Iacob Codrea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Ticul getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Alexandru Chinezu hit a great ball. Helmuth Duckadam was a little too slow when Gigi Iovanovici got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 62nd minute. The score was now 0-4. After a rather tough play, Ticul's Alexandru Chinezu got a free kick in the 64th minute. In the 66th minute, Lucian Josan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Doxa Beregsau Mare's Charilaos Triantafyllou slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Helmuth Duckadam. That made the score 0-5 after 67 minutes of play. Helmuth Duckadam took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gigi Iovanovici, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gigi Iovanovici during the 74th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 74th minute, Gigi Iovanovici hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ticul's Helmuth Duckadam played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gigi Iovanovici in the 77th minute of play. 82 minutes into the match, Ticul's goalkeeper Helmuth Duckadam had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gigi Iovanovici. When Georges El Naili fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Doxa Beregsau Mare's protests and gave Georges El Naili a yellow card for diving instead. After 83 played minutes Doxa Beregsau Mare got a freekick which was hit by Georges El Naili. In the 86th match minute, Ticul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucas Lindell to maneuver through the defense. Charilaos Triantafyllou in the 92ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Helmuth Duckadam, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gigi Iovanovici got free with Helmuth Duckadam in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
