To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Virgil Dănilă took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iacob Drăgoescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20th minute, Tudor Cînu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Walter Zenga. The goal made the score 1-0. Iacob Drăgoescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Virgil Dănilă tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Iacob Drăgoescu in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Virgil Dănilă saved FC STEAUA BUCURESTI from getting behind. After 26 minutes FC STEAUA BUCURESTI's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Pär Rolfsson who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Old Boys's Pär Rolfsson to fire away a dangerous shot which Virgil Dănilă despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 28 minutes into the game, when Grigore Boacă put in a rough tackle. In the 27th minute, one of FC STEAUA BUCURESTI:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC STEAUA BUCURESTI. Virgil Dănilă had in the 29thth minute some difficulties stopping Pär Rolfsson's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Virgil Dănilă took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iacob Drăgoescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34th minute Iacob Drăgoescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Virgil Dănilă saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Old Boys's Walter Zenga proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Old Boys from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tudor Cînu got free with Walter Zenga in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Doru Ghioane could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Walter Zenga made a huge save. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Iacob Drăgoescu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gláuber dos Santos struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Walter Zenga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC STEAUA BUCURESTI. A collision led to Old Boys getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Mugur Hurezan hit a great ball. Walter Zenga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Doru Ghioane, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Walter Zenga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Doru Ghioane in the 65th minute of play. Virgil Dănilă showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Iacob Drăgoescu in the 66th minute of the match. When Tudor Cînu came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the FC STEAUA BUCURESTI fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tudor Cînu couldn't finish the play. Walter Zenga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doru Ghioane, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. When the match had gone on for 85 minutes, Hílton Catarinense put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Walter Zenga. When the match clock showed 88 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Álvaro Rodríguez sped through Old Boys's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Walter Zenga. Walter Zenga didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Álvaro Rodríguez went, in the 91st minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. In the 93rd match minute, FC STEAUA BUCURESTI was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eduard Nenciu to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 95 minutes, Iacob Drăgoescu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Old Boys's supporters crossed their fingers, but Iacob Drăgoescu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. FC STEAUA BUCURESTI were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Old Boys for a fine match.
