The audience thought a goal was coming when Dumitru Surugiu got free with Ubaldo Pelayo in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Old Boys's Iacob Drăgoescu came free and shot a quick shot against goal 13 minutes in the game, fortunately Ubaldo Pelayo had problems saving as it came toward the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Irinel Oancea in the 14th minute of play forced Old Boys's goalkeeper Aurelian Hidiș to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 20 played minutes Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Stelian Zorlescu. The supporters of Ibaneasa FC booed when Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mugur Hurezan didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Dumitru Surugiu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mugur Hurezan hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After 82 played minutes Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Sever Podgoreanu. In the 83rd minute, Pär Rolfsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Iacob Drăgoescu in the 94th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ubaldo Pelayo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 95 minutes into the match, Old Boys's goalkeeper Aurelian Hidiș had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Victor Oprea. When the match was over Ibaneasa FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Old Boys throughout the match.
