After having played for 3 minutes, Cristi Ionășescu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Timbau CSM's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristi Ionășescu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Elemér Udvarhelyi in the 4th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gigel Șeimeanu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 11th minute of the match Kaj Bogren sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cosmin Roman skillfully saved the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ernest Grecescu in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cosmin Roman saved Timbau CSM from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristi Ionășescu in the 17th minute of play forced FC CETATE DEVA's goalkeeper Gigel Șeimeanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Constantin Cristoloveanu kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. In the 24th minute Cristi Ionășescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Șeimeanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29th minute, Cristi Ionășescu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gigel Șeimeanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elemér Udvarhelyi in the 39th minute of play forced FC CETATE DEVA's goalkeeper Gigel Șeimeanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dragoş Măgură's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cosmin Roman read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. In the 43rd minute, Ernest Grecescu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Cosmin Roman. The goal made the score 1-1. A collision led to FC CETATE DEVA getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Kaj Bogren hit a great ball. Elemér Udvarhelyi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 49th minute. Gigel Șeimeanu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Timbau CSM made a substitution. Gică Mitescu replaced Cristi Ionășescu. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Ernest Grecescu made the kick off in the second half. Timbau CSM's Cosmin Roman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ernest Grecescu in the 54th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Elemér Udvarhelyi got free with Gigel Șeimeanu in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gică Mitescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gigel Șeimeanu having to interfere. Cosmin Roman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ernest Grecescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cosmin Roman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ernest Grecescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. In the 77th minute Gică Mitescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Șeimeanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC CETATE DEVA's Marcel Abraham was substituted for Cătălin Turcu. In the 79th minute, Ivan Ghionaru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 83 minutes into the game, Kaj Bogren was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC CETATE DEVA's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Timbau CSM the free kick.
