An unexpectedly hard shot by Valeriu Zoreanu in the 12th minute of play forced New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper Eduardo Pereyra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Granicerul's Remus Vuia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Granicerul from getting a goal against them. After 14 played minutes Granicerul got a freekick which was hit by Dinu Pelin. Remus Vuia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nazım Taci's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Valeriu Zoreanu in the 19th minute of the match. In the 20th minute Valeriu Zoreanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Pereyra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nazım Taci got free with Remus Vuia in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eric Simion in the 23rd minute of play forced New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper Eduardo Pereyra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Nazım Taci quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Eduardo Pereyra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jack Ares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dinu Pelin in the 40th minute of play. When New York Red Bulls's Nazım Taci in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Granicerul's goalie prevented a goal. After 44 played minutes, New York Red Bulls's Basarab Panduru shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Remus Vuia came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in New York Red Bulls reached it. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dinu Pelin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Remus Vuia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nazım Taci, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dinu Pelin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Eduardo Pereyra made a huge save. Basarab Panduru, 56 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save New York Red Bulls from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, New York Red Bulls's Basarab Panduru got a free kick in the 58th minute. In the 66th minute of the match, Eric Simion tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Eduardo Pereyra saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Eduardo Pereyra made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Dinu Pelin sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dinu Pelin got free with Eduardo Pereyra in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra got control of the ball when Valeriu Zoreanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Nazım Taci came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the New York Red Bulls fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nazım Taci couldn't finish the play. Eduardo Pereyra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Ares, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. 82 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's George Schiau sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Remus Vuia narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jack Ares in the 85th minute of play forced New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper Eduardo Pereyra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra got control of the ball when Dinu Pelin tried to sneak it across the goal line. Eduardo Pereyra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valeriu Zoreanu in the 88th minute of play. In the 89th match minute, New York Red Bulls was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nazım Taci to maneuver through the defense. Eduardo Pereyra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valeriu Zoreanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
