The audience thought a goal was coming when Cazimir Adomniței got free with Nistor Isăilă in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 6th minute of the match Gabriel Troncotă shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nistor Isăilă showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 8 played minutes Minerul Baia Mare got a freekick which was hit by Gabriel Troncotă. The supporters of Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca booed when Minerul Baia Mare was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toader Oniga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nicolae Enoiu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Calistrat Pascaru showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristinel Iurea, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Nae Beniuc's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Calistrat Pascaru read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. Nistor Isăilă made an important save on a dangerous shot by Toader Oniga in the 25th minute. Cazimir Adomniței charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cazimir Adomniței the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 33 played minutes Minerul Baia Mare got a freekick which was hit by Cazimir Adomniței. After some careless play in the Minerul Baia Mare defense, Nae Beniuc kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Calistrat Pascaru. The Minerul Baia Mare fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Calistrat Pascaru should have stopped the shot. 43 minutes into the match, Cazimir Adomniței notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca's Nistor Isăilă. Nistor Isăilă was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Nae Beniuc fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca's protests and gave Nae Beniuc a yellow card for diving instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nae Beniuc was the one to do the kick off. Calistrat Pascaru took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nicolae Enoiu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 56 minutes into the game, Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca's Nicolae Enoiu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Calistrat Pascaru made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Nistor Isăilă didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Toader Oniga went, in the 63rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. After 69 played minutes Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Cristinel Iurea. When Minerul Baia Mare's Toader Oniga in the 72nd minute got a chance for a shot 72nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The coaching staff of Inter Sport Cluj-Napoca protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Irinel Druga had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 96th minute there was a penalty for Minerul Baia Mare. Ionel Ciompec stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Nistor Isăilă. 3-3. Nistor Isăilă showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cazimir Adomniței in the 99th minute of the match. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
