An unexpectedly hard shot by Jonas Vennerlund in the 10th minute of play forced Politehnica Iasi's goalkeeper Emilian Feteanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emilian Feteanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Elian in the 13th minute of the match. If Jonas Vennerlund had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Cetatea Suceava fans' excitement grew in the 19th match minute when Cetatea Suceava's Gigi Neacșu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Emilian Feteanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Elian in the 28th minute of the match. 29 minutes into the game, Jonas Vennerlund cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Emilian Feteanu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Emilian Feteanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciprian Mitrea, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 38 minutes into the match, Cetatea Suceava's goal looked a bit too open when Tiberiu Dulgherescu came free, but Liviu Aldulescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 40 minutes into the game, one of Politehnica Iasi:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Emilian Feteanu went to the wrong direction when Francesco Alfonsi was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. After 44 minutes, Tiberiu Dulgherescu made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. Cetatea Suceava's Liviu Aldulescu tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ciprian Mitrea to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Iosif Porumbescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cetatea Suceava's Gigi Neacșu pulled a muscle in his leg after 55 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Grigore Maior charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Grigore Maior the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Cetatea Suceava's Codruț Octavian was substituted for Gigi Neacșu. After 55 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Politehnica Iasi! Emilian Feteanu had in the 58thth minute some difficulties stopping Francesco Alfonsi's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Iosif Porumbescu in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Liviu Aldulescu saved Cetatea Suceava from getting behind. Politehnica Iasi's Emilian Feteanu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Politehnica Iasi from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristiano Ronaldinho got free with Emilian Feteanu in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 65 minutes into the match, Cetatea Suceava's goal looked a bit too open when Silviu Zburliş came free, but Liviu Aldulescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner led Politehnica Iasi's Tiberiu Dulgherescu to fire away a dangerous shot which Liviu Aldulescu despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ciprian Mitrea couldn't finish the play. 77 minutes into the match, Politehnica Iasi's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Elian came free, but Emilian Feteanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 80 minutes Cetatea Suceava's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tiberiu Dulgherescu who took care of the corner kick. Politehnica Iasi's Tiberiu Dulgherescu was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Liviu Aldulescu in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Cristiano Ronaldinho's late challenge caught a Politehnica Iasi's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The Cetatea Suceava supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Cetatea Suceava would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
