But to his dismay, Horaţiu Lupșe quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bogdan Cândroveanu in the 17th minute of play forced Club Vertigo's goalkeeper Ovidiu Caranfil to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Olympique de Marseille's goalkeeper Bogdan Crivoi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ştefan Panțuru in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bogdan Crivoi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Valer Stătescu was the one to do the kick off. Ovidiu Caranfil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bogdan Cândroveanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Ovidiu Caranfil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horaţiu Lupșe in the 59th minute of play. Ştefan Panțuru might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bogdan Crivoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ştefan Panțuru ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 64th minute Ştefan Panțuru shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bogdan Crivoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Club Vertigo's Octavian Mergea got a free kick in the 72nd minute. In the 76th minute of the match Club Vertigo got a corner. Olympique de Marseille's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Wang Jun Bo ran over to the corner to take the kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valer Stătescu in the 80th minute of play forced Club Vertigo's goalkeeper Ovidiu Caranfil to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bogdan Crivoi made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Ştefan Panțuru sent off a good shot on target. In the 88th match minute, Olympique de Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emil Nicoliță to maneuver through the defense. Club Vertigo's Ovidiu Caranfil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emil Nicoliță in the 92nd minute of play. Ştefan Panțuru received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Bogdan Crivoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Olympique de Marseille fully deserved thier win.
