The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronny Brovall got free with Sorin Bobocea in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sebastian Ţugui in the 9th minute of play forced Balavanis's goalkeeper Sorin Bobocea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sorin Bobocea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dobri Karapetrov, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. If Grigore Şoiman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Balavanis booed when VIP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sebastian Ţugui didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 22 minutes VIP's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ionică Cucu who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Balavanis's corner Ionică Cucu fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Dumitru Berca quite easily take care of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sebastian Ţugui in the 33rd minute of play forced Balavanis's goalkeeper Sorin Bobocea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in VIP's zone, Grigore Şoiman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dumitru Berca came out of the goal and Grigore Şoiman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Grigore Şoiman hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Balavanis's Sorin Bobocea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Ţugui in the 41st minute of play. After a rather tough play, Balavanis's Nae Groșan got a free kick in the 42nd minute. After the first half Balavanis were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Alf Tanner made the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, VIP's goal looked a bit too open when Nae Groșan came free, but Dumitru Berca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, VIP's Dumitru Berca got control of the ball when Alf Tanner tried to sneak it across the goal line.
