The referee ignored Strofyliakos's protests and gave Ilias Alexopoulos a yellow card for diving instead. Eleftherios Alexidis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Takis Sidiropoulos in the 42nd minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Chrisostomos Nikolaou to strike the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in AEKFC's zone, Chrisostomos Nikolaou stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Markos Karypidis came out of the goal and Chrisostomos Nikolaou tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ilias Alexopoulos hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Chrisostomos Nikolaou managed to get in a good position for a shot. Strofyliakos's supporters rose to their feet, but Chrisostomos Nikolaou was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Markos Karypidis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Markos Karypidis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chrisostomos Nikolaou in the 98th minute of play. The AEKFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing AEKFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
