The supporters of AO Xanthi booed when Mitsakaikos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paraskevas Matsinopoulos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Mitsakaikos FC's zone, Pavlos Petkakis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Apostolis Kleomenis came out of the goal and Pavlos Petkakis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zisis Tripodakis hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Mitsakaikos FC's Apostolis Kleomenis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Mitsakaikos FC from getting a goal against them. After having played for 30 minutes, Thomas Kabouras managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AO Xanthi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Kabouras was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Mitsakaikos FC defense, Thomas Kabouras kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Apostolis Kleomenis. The Mitsakaikos FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Apostolis Kleomenis should have stopped the shot. Apostolis Kleomenis acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 36th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ntinos Kolotoubis. Thomas Kabouras in the 40thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Apostolis Kleomenis, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 40 minutes into the game, Giorgos Panou was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mitsakaikos FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AO Xanthi the free kick. A collision led to Mitsakaikos FC getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Vaggelis Vrachos made a kick off. In the 51st minute, Pavlos Petkakis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Apostolis Kleomenis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thomas Kabouras's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. When Thomas Kabouras came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the AO Xanthi fans jumped to their feet.
